Blackberry Torch 9810 Is Solid, Responsive & Slightly Underwhelming

Last year, RIM introduced the Blackberry Torch 9800 which is a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard hybrid. Almost a year later, Blackberry Torch 9810 has arrived which is packed with lot of creative features. Design-wise, both of the smartphone are pretty similar but the real change is in the software. The device is running on very latest Blackberry 7 Operating system.

 1. The Slider Design- Blackberry Torch 9810 gives you the best of both the world- a physical keyboard and a full touch display. The mobile phone is slightly thinner, measuring 4.3 by 2.4 by 0.54 inch and weight 5.6 ounces the same as the original Torch. It comes in two colors- Silver & Black and both of look very classy.

The slider mechanism feels sturdy & solid and also slides up smoothly to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard. Even the keyboard is pretty much identical to the original Torch but a slightly wilder. There is a software keyboard and you can use in portrait and landscape mode, but both variations pretty cramped. There is an 3.2 inch display with display resolution of 640*480 pixel which is an improvement of the original Torch screen. It is powered by a new technology and RIM calls 'Liquid graphic' which gives you a smoother more fluid touch experience.

 2. The Operating System- Blackberry Torch 9810 running on the brand new or popular Blackberry 7 Operating system and also add some much needed enhancement to the Blackberry Operating system. There are some amazing features such as HTML 5, supports the tab in the browser, a built in augmented reality browser, spruced up messaging features.

 3. The Camera- Blackberry Torch 9810 offers 5 megapixel camera and comes with useful features includes auto-focus, LED Flash, Geo-tagging, image stabilization & continuous auto-focus. There are some fancy new shooting features like scene modes & face detection and presents everything within a clean or easy to use interface. It is also capable of impressive 720p HD video recording.

 4. The Performance- Blackberry Torch 9810 is powered by advanced 1.2 GHz processor along with 768 MB of RAM. The internal memory is 8 GB which offers free space for data storage. There is a micro SD card slot which can supported up to 32 GB. It supports AT&T's HSPA plus network, the carriers current version of a '4G' network. Call quality over the network is good overall and voice on the other end of the line sounded clear & loud.

Blackberry generally have good battery life and Blackberry Torch 9810 seems to be carrying the tradition. The talk time is around 6 h 30 min for 2G/up to 5 h 50 min for 3G and stand by time is up to 308 h for 2G/up to 300 h for 3G. Rim also clarified that Web pages have a 40 percent faster loading time as compare to Blackberry 6 browser. It means that apparent media heavy pages loaded quickly over both Wi-Fi and AT&T's network.

 5. Conclusion- Blackberry Torch 9810 is a little underwhelming overall. Its sharper display, updates in Blackberry 7 Operating system and impressive HD video recording capabilities makes it a perfect smartphone. AT&T's does not have many Android handsets with QWERTY keyboard so it might be a good alternative especially comes in decent prize.
